Roguelike
The genre, named after 1980s game Rogue, has proven itself to be fiendishly addictive with titles such as Hades and Endless Dungeon leaving a lasting mark on gamers. Characterised by procedurally generated levels, dungeon crawler style movement mechanics and gameplay that is often turn-based, Roguelike games have proven a surprise hit and that trend is showing no sign of slowing down in 2024.
If anything, the genre is diversifying and evolving to become something even greater. It is spawning hordes of great titles, each with nuanced differences and unique gameplay features - opening entirely new realms of fun and creativity.
33 Immortals, a hotly anticipated new title that is coming soon from Thunder Lotus games, is taking the genre in an ambitious new direction with a co-operative mode that pits you and up to 32 other players against hordes of monsters, in multiplayer raid gameplay that will add an exciting new dynamic to the genre.
For studios working on Roguelike projects, there are fantastic opportunities abound and a growing audience for the genre. With over 150 new Roguelike titles announced on Steam in 2024 and counting, it’s never been more important to stand out from the pack.
